“Ready for Change”

Part 1

With the season about to change, it puts me in mind of all the changes that Elisha incurred when his mentor Elijah went up to heaven in a chariot.  When Elisha saw Elijah taken by the chariot he cried out, “My father, my father.”  After this, there were many changes in Elisha’s life (2 Kings 2: 11-23).  Sometimes changes are a welcomed addition to our everydayness, especially after a long, hard, and dry season.  But then sometimes the thing furtherest from our mind is change.  This was the case with Elisha when he knew that Elijah was leaving.  He didn’t want his father/mentor to go.  But he could do nothing to change the situation.

The only thing for Elisha to do was to move forward, and do all he could to remember everything that Elijah had taught him.  There are times in our lives when we simply have to face changes with our faith in God and what we’ve learned.  This was the case with Elisha.  First, Elisha had to face the river at Jordan.  The Jordan River represents a time when there is no one to take your responsibility for you, you are totally on your own.  You must depend on what you have learned from those who have been there before you.
