The first Memorial Day was celebrated as Decoration Day on May 5, 1866 in Waterloo, New York. They did so to decorate the graves of those who had died in the Civil war. In 1882, the name was officially changed to Memorial Day. It was not until 1971 that all fifty states adopted the last Monday in May giving as a three-day weekend that became the opening day of summer.

This Memorial Day there will be parades, flag waving, barbeques, and celebrations all across America. You too will celebrate in your usual way. We want to take this opportunity to say how grateful we are as Americans to those who fought and died for our country.

The complexion of our beloved Country is changing. We are entering into an era that will create such upheaval that we may not recognize our own constitution. This is the time for us to pray and to pray specifically for our country.

Change as far as change goes is not the point things do change. On the first Memorial Day, people rode on horses and in buggies. Today they ride in convertibles, and ride on motor-drawn floats. So change does come, and we call it progress. However, the change I am referring to is in our beliefs, in our morals, and changes in the very foundation on which this country was originally founded.

We hope the celebration that you chose this Memorial Day will be safe and blessed. Draw your family close and form a large circle of love that can keep you protected. And as you join hands to pray before your meal pray for our beloved America that God’s will shall be done here as it is done in heaven

Have a Great Memorial Day Everybody

Amen.
