“Kept by His Word” Part 1

We are hearing all sorts of stories on how this recession is affecting people. It reminds me of the time that great famine came to the nation of Israel. There was no rain over the land, and people were starving and many died. This famine came because of sin in the hearts of the people.

Today we have the same problems with sin that Israel had. Since we serve a God that is no respecter of persons, we may find ourselves in very precarious situations before it is over.

However, when we read the times of famine in Israel, we see that God took care of His people who kept His Word and followed His commandments. Elijah and the widow at Zarephath were some whom the Father God cared for during the time of famine. When the widow shared her last bit of food with the prophet, she had plenty to share with her son and all her relatives who came to her house. Because of obedience, the widow’s entire household was safe.

Joseph, warned of a coming recession, prepared the Pharaoh, and all of Egypt were spared. Egypt faced seven years of hard famine but because of Joseph’s faithfulness to God, Egypt weathered the famine.
